Alright, I bought an MSI K7Master and am waiting for the last few parts of my computer before I put it together. I know it uses the AMD761 Chipset for the north bridge and the VIA686B for the south, but what I don't know is what I need to download to get these to work properly. I already have the latest AMD AGP Miniport and the latest 4-in-1's, but I need to know which files I should use from the 4-in-1's. Is there anything else I need to download? Anything else you'd recommend?

I've also bought and OEM Pioneer DVD-106S and OEM Maxtor DiamondMax Plus60 40GB HD. Since they were OEM, the shipped without any software, so is there anything I should need? Should I download some sort of Maxtor hard drive utility like MaxBlast, and is there anything I should need for the Pioneer? I'm sorry to seem so ignorant about these things, but this will be the first time I'll have actually set up a new computer completely from parts, so I'd like to make sure I do it right the first time.

Oh yeah, and any particular Detonator version you'd recommend? :)

:D Sorry, one more thing -- my GeForce 2 Pro also arrived today, but it appears that maybe it's an Ultra?? Is the RAM timing the little number in the upper right-hand corner of the chip, or is it more in the center with all the other numbers? Because in the upper right-hand corner, it says 4T. But under the other numbers, at the end, it says 05. Hmmm...

Thanks a LOT for any help you can give me!

Well, just get the newest 4 in 1's and uncheck the AGP vxd driver during the installation.
I'd also recommend downloading the newest AMD miniport drivers, they are pretty hard
to find on the AMD webpage. You don't need any software for the DVD and the Maxblast
is just a nice tool to partition your hard drive. For the Detonators
I'd recommend the 12.40's they are fast and work without any problems,
you can get them at www.3dchipset.com under beta drivers.

Actually you should use Nvidia's 7.58 unless you have a GF3. They are WHQL certified. You will get best results from them. The 12.40s are the latest but it doesn't mean they are the best! ;)

What OS are you using? For Win2k, SP2 came out recently, you should install that early on.

The 4-in-1s should possibly be the first thing you install. Also, immediately check out Microsoft's Windows Update site. There are possibly other patches that I'm forgetting about that you should look into.

Good luck. You'll definately have fun putting it together. :)

Alright, cool. I'll be running Win98SE, so I don't have to worry about SP's or anything. But I guess I'll use the 7.58's then. :) Thanks.

Anybody know about the RAM timings?
