Mobo: Do you plan on OCing? What special features do you need?

As for CPU, if youmplan on OCing even a little, the 3000+ vencie ($150 US) is a great buy. Most people can OC them to 2.2 GHz, which is the speed of the 3500+. If you don't want to OC, I would recommend the 3500+. A bit more expensive, so you may have to sacrifice elseware.

PSU:Anything over 350W from a reputable manufacturer should be fine. I would look at Antec, Fortron/Source, Enermax, seasonic. Is noise a concern for you? Some PSus tend to make a bit of noise and it drives some people crazy (I could care less). If so, you may want to look specifically at the seasonic s12s and enermax noisetaker series. These are some of the quietest PSUs on the market.

I would recommend the Chaintech vnf4, but it does not look like that site stocks it... I would read a few reviews and try to find a good stable one that won't break the bank but has all the features you need.

after reading alot about intel and amd i have decided that intel would be the best for me and can you please help me select a psu from www.ebuyer.co.uk as someone said te stock one would blow something.

For slighly more money, a 6600GT will perform much better. Maybe you could find a good deal on the X700Pro

Video ripping is currently limited by the rip speed of the DVD ROM, not the CPU (3000 class CPUs).

We have linked to some good PSUs. If you want a stable system that you can leave on for extended periods, you are going to have to spend more than $50 (unless you find some good deals). That Antec PSU is a great buy.

Edit: That 400W antec is the only acceptable one at ebuyer. The "ebuyer" branded ones look extremely cheap and worthless. All the antec supplies are either overkill or not enough, so that should work fine.

As for a GPU, get whatever seems enough for your needs. Read a few reviews and pick the one that will allow you to game at a resolution and frame rate tht is acceptable to you. Do you play complex FPS type games, or much less taxing ones? That 6600 is propably fine, but read a few reviews.

last thing. Don't get a 530, get a 630 unless you REALY want to run into "My Computer Is Overheating" problems. Trust me on that one.

1) do NOT be cheap about your power supply. It should be a quality brand and it should have ample wattage. With the Pentium4 having a relatively high thermal output, heck, I'd be going for the 500-watt range if it were me. Down the road, you might find that "overkill" is suddenly "just right."

2) you will need snacks. I can't believe no one mentioned this yet. Refer to my snack-consumption/computer-building guide starting on this page for detailed help with lots of photos (and no ads!).

3) I would've suggested an AMD system too. I guess I'm biased, but also I maintain a fleet of about 85 systems, almost half of which are AMD's. They're reliable, all right. Of course, I didn't handicap them with low-quality RAM or power supplies either.
