thanks for all the help everyone, i think I'm about done with what I need.
I really am sure I don't need a DVD burner, this PC (my dad's) has one, but I never needed to use it (he would let me if I did), and the CD burner is fine if I actually have to burn anything.

thats a great PSU for the price the only problem is its not an ATX 2.0 PSU, like boards that use pci-e prefer, will it work yes? but there is a possiblity for stablity issues because the x800xl does not have a seperate power plug on the card and it will be pulling all its power from the pci-e slot. but since that PSU is a good on you shouldn't have a problem

I have one thing to say you need to get used to a keyboard and mouse its sooo much better you dont even know yet for fps its insane.

the only way to play fps is with k/b mouse, bar none

Ya, i'm OK with mouse and keyboard, just from playing Halo 2 a lot (sorry!) I got used to the controller again. I wonn't be playing many console games once I've got a good computer, so I won't get the controller. And, I decided I really want to be safe with my parts, so I'll go back to the 3200+ venice in the first post. Also, I'll just keep the cheaper PSU for now.

what core is that CPU? In the picture they have the #'s blured out. I would make sure to get a Venice core if I were you.

decided to get the 3200+core from newegg, to eliminate problems and to make things easy

I say get an Antec TP2.0 430W. It's more than enough anyways and its quieter =)

dump the CDRW and get a DVD burner. They are only like 40-50$

bad idea, for the extra ~$20 you will save yourself in the long run. psus are just as, if not more important than ram, m/b, etc. it all starts with the psu..

that would be a good one since it has 2x12V lines and 2GB will only benefit you if you exceed 1GB, which will depend on usage. for gaming, only running bf2 at really high resolutions (1600x1200) and all the eye candy on high would probably do it, other than that no. do you do a lot of video editing in hd format? 3d rendering? CAD? plus you would want to go 2x1GB sticks if you do go 2GB instead of 4x512MB with the a64.
