Building my Dream Computer

I am new to building my computer. I have read many articles and i was wondering what parts you all think would be a good combo for the computer i will describe under the 750 dollar mark.

I want it to have atleast 1 gig ram. I want it to run allot of the new pc games. I also want it to be a fast computer which would be good to multi task in. It should have alot of hard drive space for all the games and apps i am planning to install. I am not that concerned with how it looks. I alrady have a good moniter.

Please excuse the inconvinience. i am new to building a pc and i dont want to make silly mistakes.

Under $750?

AthlonXP Mobile Barton 2500+ $85
Shuttle AN35N Ultra $55
Corsair Value Select 1GB (512MBx2) $160
160GB 7200RPM 8MB Cache PATA Hard Drive (Various Companies) $85
Antec Case+PSU $70
NEC 16X DVDRW $68
Nvidia 6600GT $225

$748

You can also change the balance of power a little; cut back on the video card and get a ATi 9600/9700/9800 used, and you can get a Athlon 64 CPU and motherboard with the money you freed up.

I just built this system:

Cooler Master Centurion 5 Mid-Tower Case with 350W Power Supply, $83
Corsair Value Select (Dual Pack) 184 Pin 512MBx2 DDR PC-3200 - $157.00
Shuttle "AN35N-Ultra" nForce2 Ultra 400 Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket A CPU -$56.00
Optorite 8X DVD+RW/-RW Drive Model DD0405, $48
AMD Mobile Athlon XP 2400+, 266FSB, 512K Cache, 45 Watt- $78
SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 9600PRO Video Card, 256MB DDR, 128-Bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP $113

extras
Thermaltake Silent Boost HSF $27.99
Aopen Keyboard $8.00

$570 before tax and shipping

I already had an Audigy sound card and a 160GB hard drive (cost: $100)

If I did it again, I would have gotten a used 9800 Pro video card...
