Building manager came in and changed all our lightbulbs? WTF?

You need to setup a security cam an start documenting everything. He probably comes in when you are both away to sniff you girlfriends panties. Or maybe yours.

Plug them into a kill-a-watt and see watt the drawl is...

They could be 55W bulbs using the other 5W for IDE (integrated device electronics). An electret mic, 802.11b module, etc. to listen to your "hobbling noise" at night near the bed. Stuff like that. 😉

Yay! It's Santa Ruby.

Maintenance did that when I first moved in, I was not pleased. I had just gone out and bought reveal floodlamps for the recessed can lighting because I didn't like what was here, and two days after I move in they show up with no notice and replace all of them with CFLs. Their excuse was that they had stuck a notice on everyone's doors a few weeks ago to give notice, when I explained to them that I had just moved in, and there was no notice on my door, and that they had broken the law by entering unannounced they didn't seem to care. "You don't pay my electric bill, fuck off." After I sent a nasty email to the corporate office of the management company I got reimbursed for my bulbs...was something like $120, those things aren't cheap!

😱😱😵 Didn't know OP wears girlfriends panties.

Never lived in an apartment, but they should at least give you a message that they need to enter the apartment to do some necessary maintenance.

We will be removing all the bulbs they installed anyway since they are completely the wrong intensity.

I have not spoken to the landlord about this yet. This is not the first time they have come in unannounced, and everything we say to them falls on deaf ears. This time I will be doing directly to the property owner.

Get rid of them. Supercaps can keep a charge and transmit for more than a month without being charged up (plugged in).

Or if you have the technical expertise scan them and "tune in" and hand them out at an office party as presents. 😉

All apartments have a clause in the contract that Management has the right to come in your apartment at any time without warning.

You don't own the apartment, you are just a peon.

What the fuck are you talking about, virtually all states have laws that require prior notice.

Fuck you for being a lying piece of shit and a worthless excuse for a human being.

They will lie and say they posted a notice on your door or in your mail.

I managed a small building years ago and the owner of the building was a stereotypical type of person. He would do things that I thought were illegal and then ask me to cover for him. His favorite response for tenants was if they were unhappy about something- move.

The property tax alone on my moms house is more than my whole years worth of rent. Plus I don't want anything more than a studio. Plus I don't want to deal with shit when it breaks. Renting is fantastic. And I can move whenever the hell I want with no financial worries.

This.

I live by myself, I have no need for a house with 3+ bedrooms and a yard. Property tax, insurance and interest kill most any benefit of building equity.

In reality, right now you should be able to buy much cheaper than renting anything.

Most can't because they have piss-poor credit.

equity is not as important as depreciation. Most properties now are no longer depreciating further. Prior to the boom, 2-3% a year of equity was all anyone expected...now people talk as if 10-20% or more should still be the norm.

Even if living by myself, I'd want more than just a one room hovel to call home and definitely wouldn't still be shacking up at my parents even though they are extremely awesome and open-minded. There is a reason even in the wild, little baby bear and lion don't stick around...it's time to grow up.

Also as far as rent and being able to move whenever you want...almost all the decent places here require 30-90 days to break the lease and most will require the remainder of the lease to be paid out if you have lived less than 24 months there.
