I'm not planning to overclock this system (much).

I'm not a big "fancy case" guy, so I chose a case that I already have (and like). Mouse, keyboard, and monitor are already taken care of.

Comments and suggestions are very much welcome.

I'd go with socket 939, and a 3500+ winchester. Aspire PSU's are not exactly high quality. I'd get an enermax, fortron, or antec, 430w or more would be plenty good enough. Heatspreaders for the ram aren't really neccessary, unless you just like the look. Oh, and a hard drive might be useful...

What kind of hard drives are you going to use? Consumer MiniDV and HDV use 3.125 MB/sec so it adds up pretty quick. You might also want to always have at least 10 GB free for scratch / temp space when mastering a DVD video disc image for burning.

If you plan on working with DVCPro50 or DVCProHD, you'll be using about 6.25 MB/sec.

If you're thinking about working with uncompressed video, it'll start at about 25 MB/sec for standard definition and quickly hit as much as 180 MB/sec for 1080i.

hmm, I had a hitachi 250gb Sata drive on there...

Most of the components I selected were based off existing machines...

Jesus... that's nothing but a list of fluff...

For serious video editing you'll read a RAID10 of SCSI's or at least Raptors.

I used to edit 720p video and that would bring a RAID10 of Seagate 15k.4's to its knees.

Chances are he's just going to be editing consumer MiniDV / Digital 8 material. That's just plain old DV25... 3.125 MB/sec, you can do that on a $500 notebook these days.

Hmm, just keep the retail amd fan and perhaps if you want, get a 3000+ 939 and OC it, also, get an Antec true power psu to help with the 6800 GT, but if not, it'll be a sweet system anyway

I did drop the heatsink as I figured I'd try stock first... I'm also looking over at the video thread and thinking about switching the capture card to a Hauppauge WinTV PVR 250 or 350...
