hey everyone, i have some junk lying around, pentium 100 and I am planning to build a freesco server for my routing needs, you think I can remove the fan from the powersupply and just use a heatsink for the processor? or is that hazardous. gonna boot from a floppy..thanks for any input, later.

Hey Freesco rocks! I have turned 3 boxes of junk into routers, and ethernet a bridge.

Anyway, My old p100 came from the factory without a fan on the heat sink and that wasn't terrible large to start with (OEM). It would over six years old now, and a friend still uses it. I don't know about taking the fan out of the power supply, that sounds risky to me.

I've run fanles spowersupplies, infact I am using one now. Never had any problems with it. I ran Freesco as a matter of fact on a p2-300 with just a big heat sink witht he fanless ps with no problems. only way you could tell the thing was on was by touching the processor heat sink :)
