building for gram

hi all, im going to be building a computer for my gram in about a month.. and i have all parts ordered except windows 98.. i have been asking around and everyone has been telling me to buy the full version becasue i will need the boot disk to format my harddrive.. could someone give me a little instruction on that.. and all at Mwave.. i can get 98 SE 97.00 if ordered with hardware.. could seom may-b in there free time check that out and tell me if thats how much a full version cost.

You can download Win98 Boot disks off the net. Not sure where right now, but i'm sure if you search for "boot disk" you might find something.

depending on how new the components are for the computer you are building, you may not need the boot disk. prolly can just boot from the CD... my win98se disc does anyway.

My Maxtor HD came with a floppy with it's own formatting utility. It asks you if you're going to load your operating system from a CDR. If you say yes, it loads the CDR driver, then tells you to put your CDR in the drive and reboot. Windoze installs from there.

Or you could just get the boot disk from the link above that Bacillius was nice enough to post and take it from there. Good luck.

If you are going to college or happen to know somebody who is you should be able to get windows98 for cheap. At least I know that Wisconsin has a program like this and I am sure that other states do too.

With that computer you can just set the boot order to boot from a cd before the harddrive and it should install off the cd without needing a boot disk.
