I appreciate all of your guys advice. I ended up purchasing the 5820k and Fury X and the corsair 750D case. Now I only have the case yet but it seems HUGE. Do you guys think this case's size is overkill for my single gpu build and when both my cpu and gpu are going to be liquid cooled? Or should I keep this case for the great airflow and potential expansion capabilities?

That's more of a personal decision; the problem with going small is that you have to carefully engineer all your components so they will be assured of fitting and working together. If space is not really an issue, a bigger case ensures plenty of clearance for all components.

i would go with the cheaper 1150, they are both 4-core and the 4790k can possibly perform even better, for less.

if i recall correctly, this is a huge beast and quite expensive, for custom water loops. why not a gorgeous Fractal Define R4 or R5? (cheaper too ?)

Yes, it is overkill. All the airflow in the world doesn't matter when its wasted blowing around inside a big empty box with no guidance.

There's a difference between avoiding a mini-ITX case due to clearance concerns, and buying a massive full tower. Any normal mid-tower like a 300R has plenty of expansion up to and including an SLI setup.

Of course I defer to your greater knowledge and experience, but it looks like some mid-towers won't accommodate the radiator for an AIO cooler without interference with connectors on the top edge of the mobo, notably the CPU power connector.

For what it's worth, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the OP's build. There's been a ton of criticism of the OP's choices, every single one of them, but frankly, it's not all about building on a budget. He's clearly not worried about that, so let him have nice stuff.

The 750D is one of the best cases on the market at any price. It's not even remotely similar to a 300R.

That 802.11ac adapter is far faster than any 802.11n device, and it's the current standard, why buy something five years old?

And seriously, six cores vs. four cores for a bit more money is a fine investment. You guys still using your e8400s?

I don't think it is a bad build by any stretch of the imagination. I just find it interesting when people post here, get feedback, and decide not to listen to any if it.

A couple years ago I did an inexpensive build for a friend, as I do every couple years, but this time I decided to run it by the folks here. They gave some great suggestions, which I utilized, and ended up with a better build at a better price than I had first considered.

I did take some of the advice but not all. I wanted to hear everyone's opinions and advice. Some reasons given for different components just didn't convince me to make the switch. But I'm still grateful they took the time to post their advice. Also, since this is my first build, I also wanted to double check all the necessary parts were there and all compatible.

Anyways, I can't wait to finally build this machine! Any suggestion's for PC games that are graphically stunning?

Nah, not overkill. I put a single liquid cooled GPU and CPU in a 900D. 😀

Great list. Not all of these are great games (ahem, Ryse), but this pretty much covers the best looking games out there. ProjectCars is probably a good one too if you're into racing.

Tomb Raider is an older game compared to the rest, but it is stunning and offers great gameplay. I personally am very much looking forward to Rise of the Tomb Raider coming in early 2016 to PC (after the XBone exclusive launch...)

To be honest I don't think SC in its current state is particularly stunning looking. It looks pretty plain and uninteresting because there aren't any good environments to look at. There are a few different hangars and a few different space environments (mostly consisting of empty space and asteroids). I think we need to wait until Squadron 42 episode one until we get to see the sort of stunning environments we've come to expect from CryEngine.

Have you tried the flight training in Arena Commander? The hangar is beautiful, the NPC and other ships look great, the helmet effects are great, and the space environment is beautiful as well. I wish Elite had more "busy" environments like that besides planetary rings, but that's what you get for focusing on a more realistic universe (which has its own merits).

I'll admit that walking around the "lobby" hangar and looking at your ships isn't particularly impressive.

I haven't actually tried that. Haven't logged in for quite a long time... I've been waiting for the FPS module for 6+ months, and I won't bother with AC until the whole business with gimbal vs fixed weapons for mouse users is concluded.

Understandable. I prefer Elite for combat at the moment anyway until that and a few other issues are resolved. Give the flight training a shot. It's a nice glimpse into what they have in mind.

Sure, but you can find "some" full towers which have terrible cooling performance. The main point is that the size of the case doesn't guarantee performance or compatibility.

That's why I have the 900D primarily. I could fit an RX series (56mm thick) radiator up top without encroaching on the motherboard area.

I agree that the OP needed advice. In fact I was the first one to give any concrete suggestions, regarding the mis-matched memory and the very small SSD pick.

But lots of comments in this thread basically said "why do you need that?" or "here's something cheaper," without really explaining the reasoning so that the OP could consider it. And I do mean consider it, because unless a component simply won't work, the OP can think about the advice and choose to follow it or do something entirely different.

IMO, the point of posting a build thread is to get options. There is always more than one "answer."

Thought you guys might like to see my finished build. Let me know what you guys think. Also, my i7-5820k is stable at 4.5 GHz. I'm currently overclocking my Fury X and so far it's stable under stress testing at 1150MHz core and 600MHz memory.

I am no expert but from what I was told you don't want to have a straight 90* turn in your loop. An elbow 90 is ok. You want to keep the flow pressure up and not disrupted by a sudden angle. That's the idea I was told.
