Building first gaming PC. Need some help

I have a budget between $500-$800 to build my first gaming computer. I have a keyboard, 20 inch monitor and speakers from my old computer I'm going to use. This is what I have picked out. Any advice on what to change to make better would be appreciated.

Thumbs down on the 5770. It's not a good enough performer at its price. There are no DX 11 games to speak of yet, and all the ones that come out in the next three years will have DX 10 versions that will be pretty good. As much as microsoft has blown the DX11 horn, I don't think it's going to be as revolutionary as DX10. Anyway, save your money and get a DX 10 card, probably an HD 4870.

Not sure I see the point of a board that expensive in a budget rig.

I think I like a AMD X3 720 better than the dual core.

What motherboard do u recommend? Any other suggestions from anyone?

The 5770 video card is definitely overkill for your system. Go with the 4870 and use the savings to upgrade something else -- your monitor maybe?

what's wrong with a 5770?
at $175 you get a dx11 card that performs on par with a gtx260/4870 for the same price.

The 4870 1GB is cheaper and DX11 is nothing to brag about now. Besides that, we don't even know if DX11 will make a game chug like DX10 did in some cases. It's an unknown. The card isn't "bad" but it's not a real value right now since we know too little to just say to someone "spend a bit more and get it". Something to note: the 5770 loses to the 4870 in almost every test in this review http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3658&p=5

Now if someone needed the power of a 5870 or 5850 then that would be something I would consider. As the 5850 beats the GTX 285 at the upper mid-range and the 5870 competes with the GTX 295 at the top end. Sometimes even bettering the Nvidia card at similar settings.
