Firewire interests me but I can only take a guess. an external Firewire burner I recall seeing one for sale by a vender cannot recall the name, and either a board that supports firewire and I saw one in the last 3 weeks reviewed for the T-Bird platform or a fire wire Pci card. I would start using a search engen like "google" and type in firewire then firewire cdrw.
and the rest I leave to another more informed techie.

PS if anyone recalls that MOBO containing both a firewire and networking for T-Bird on board and reviewed within the last 3 weeks, please add in the name of it. I was just looking for that board and canot recall the manufacturor nor the model.

Interesting, perhaps, would be building an external CD-RW for USB, for use with notebooks, most of whom do not yet have IEEE 1934 (firewire) ports. Any good leads on such ?

I looked into buliding my own external USB CD-R for my laptop

Just to let you konw, anything faster than 4x as an external CD-R will fail using the current USB standard. USB 2.0 will change this, but its not implemented on any laptops right now.

the other problem with building your own external USB cd-r is you have to find a case housing for your drive. Those external USB cases to store your drive in are DAMN EXPENSIVE!!!

It was my finding after much research that buying a pre assembled ext USB cd-r was signifigantly cheaper than trying to make my own.

Im more than certain the same will apply to fire wire. First do a serach for external firewire drive bay enclosures and see how much they are.
