Building budget computer... A64 or XP mobile?

Im trying to put together a decent gaming machine for around $600 or under and im having a hard time deciding whether to go with an A64 or a XPmobile and overclocking it. The XP mobile is cheaper and i can afford a better video card, ram, ect... or would it be better to go with the A64?

Any suggestions?

I'd stick with some kind of AMD 64 CPU as the AXP line is pretty much dead. You could go with a Semptron to save a little $$ (and they still perform very well).

I just put together this system that looks very cool and runs quite well:
AMD 64 3000+
Shuttle SN85G4LV2
ATI 9800 Pro
512meg Kingston pc3200 value RAM
Maxtor 120gig SATA drive
Sony 4x +/- DVD burner

total: ~$500. Granted, I got most of this stuff (except the SN85G4LV2 which I got from the $199 ZZF sale) from the FS forums here, so it's not brand new, but it runs like it is! If you went with a normal case/mobo it would be even cheaper.
