My new project is an internet server, after having too many problems with ICS on my main computer (see this thread). Anyway, I have 2 CPUS and a few OS's to choose from. I have an Asus P5A mobo, 64MB ram, 30GB HDD, 2MB PCI video card, Linksys 10/100 NIC(to modem), and a Linksys 10MPS NIC (to hub), and either a 233MHz Pentium MMX (very stable) or a AMD K6-2 350 (was a 450 but I have to underclock it to keep from overheating). For OS's, I have WinNT 4.0 workstation, Win2K Pro, or Win98 SE. I'm probably going with the P-233 and Win2K. I think this will be the most stable setup out of the stuff I have. I need stability over speed because everytime I have to work on the server I have to lug a monitor with a couple almost bent pins across my basement. BTW, I have wingate for ICS, but if you guys know of any better ones, please inform me! Thanks for your help.

not sure I understand the question. What do you mean by the term Internet Server. It looks like to me that all you are asking is how to use more than 1 machine on the net at once. If you dont like lugging a monitor why not use VNC I like TightVNC because it is free, stable and easy to set up.

just buy a router if u want to share internet connection....

For OS, linux is most stable.

Internet Server - vague term..

For internet server, I mean a computer that shares the internet to my other systems on my network(a computer that takes the place of a router). I would run linux, but I need to have a couple special ports open (4661 - 4662 tcp, 4665 udp) for a P2P program that I use. Last time I tried linux (Coyote linux that runs on a floppy), I couldn't get the ports open. If you guys know how to open the ports on Mandrake Linux 9.1 (or 9.0, or 8.2 or 8.0), please tell me. Trust me, I would love to run linux. Thanks for telling me about TightVNC, that program looks perfect for what I need to do! About buying a router, money is tight now, and I'd like to use the stuff I have until I can spring for a nice one.

It's all a matter of knowing netfilter's Iptables syntax. You can email me privately at chsh1ca@yahoo.ca once you get it setup (the P233MMX should be fine for what you need). Just make sure you don't bother with a GUI.
