Building an HTPC which video cardor whatever for the best TV out.

This will be connected to a standard definition TV, but it does have component inputs as well as Svideo and composite. But I have heard that with SDTV the components won't be any better then Svideo. I have also heard on some other forums that nVidias card have better TV output to a standard definition TV then do ATI's. But I was always under the impression that ATI was king when it came to TV out. This will mainly be used to view recorded TV shows fromthe HTPC to the TV.

I have used both S-Video and Component video output on my set-top DVD player to my SDTV and found the component to have better colors. So I imagine that difference would apply to computer ouput as well. I can't say which brand is best for sure, but I know that the ATI 9600 NP is a favored video card in some of the Home Theater PC forums I frequent. You will also have to pickup a component dongle for the component out you are looking for.

so I have the same question. except I have a radeon 9000 pro and a gainward ultra650/tv it's a ti4200 64mb.

I can't figuer out whcih one is better.

Doing A/B comparisons from my PS2 paused on a very colorful screen I noticed a tad bit better color definition on component on my 32" ntsc wega. Enough reason for me to pay a little extra for the cables.

ATi's latest All-In-wonder cards have component out but for my applications (PVR'ing, MAME, vidclips) S-Video is fine for me. With nVidia's cards you get to use the awesome program TVTool, a very flexible and customizable program to fit your desktop onto a TV. One doesn't absolutely kill the other (regarding ATi vs. nVidia), so I'd go with an nVidia because of all the features.

Well I will only be using it for PVRing, watching recorded shows, and maybe DVD's(but I also have a PS2 for that)It would be nice to get some emulators for it(but for some odd reason I have had a hard time finding reliable places to get emulators and ROM's any info, PM me, Thanks) So you think Svideo is sufficient enough. When you say to go with nVidia because of the extra features, what exactly do you mean, the TV tool? ANything else?
