Building an HP from scratch !

I'm planning on using the HP 700 Pavilion Computer case. I'm just wondering would I have to purchased everything from hp? Also if I get the mobo from hp will it have all those stupid programs (Wild tangent, 60 day trial of MS Works) pre installed?

Those stupid programs (that we all hate... DELL COMMUNICATIONS CENTER!! WEWT!!) are loaded on the hard drive. If you got an HP or Dell mobo the only thing you might see is the logo when you start up.

Buying everything from HP would be dumb, I know you don't know any better but it will be really expensive and not worth it. And as long as the power supply is good enough and the right connector and the case dimensions will allow you can pick out your own motherboard and parts.

Why would you use an HP case? They usually are pretty bad, you can get a MUCH nicer case by getting it separately.

I don't know if you'd have to purchase anything from HP, but I highly suggest you dump the case and buy a new one.

As for the motherboard, motherboards never come with programs. Programs go on the hard drives. Motherboards come only with the drivers they need to run, nothing else. Wild Tangent, MS Works, those are all programs that would go to your hard drives.

Before you start building anything, please Google for some basic "do it yourself" computer building guides. You learn a lot, learn what to do and more importantly, what NOT to do. And before you do anything, ask around in these forums. You can also learn a lot, especially from those with lots of first-hand experience.

Build your own and do not use the HP case. Proprietary front-panel connectors, nooooo thank you.

Dude, this is just so rawng, you cant build an HP system from scratch.

What makes an HP system HP, is the fact that its made by HP.

Actualy the case from my HP vectra 420, was about the only thing I liked about it. It was also very silent, even if it was slow as hell(1.8ghz williamette with 256mb of sdram and a geforce 2 mx). But you are really better off getting a new case, and I don't think you could order seperate components from HP anyway, nor would it be advisable, as they would be slow and overpriced.
