I think that you're a little confused as to what "class of user" we're talking about here. I read back through every post the OP has made in this thread and the only piece of software that he mentioned is MS Office. Why are you assuming that his parents are heavy gamers?

Also, I take it that you've never used a Windows 7 machine with a normal non-admin account? It is not like Windows XP, the system is very usable without being admin.

I said "not always possible and/or desirable" not "never"

I said "often they'll 'need' to do something that requires admin access" not "always"

so of course it depends on his family, but in my experience, old people LOVE pop-cap games and similar garbage

if they are typical old people, an SSD is absolutely the right decision.
