I am planning to build a new pc in the next month and i need some help on choices. I think i have everything picked out except the processor and mobo. I am hoping to spend around $1000. For just a bit more than occasional gaming (im definitely not a hardcore gamer), which CPU should I buy? Would a 533 cel be enough if i oc it to 900? would i notice a big difference between that and a p3 700? Would I be better off with a Duron aor Athlon TBird? Heres what i already decided on:

32mb ddr GeForce GTS
128 mb Mushkin PC 133 or PC150
Acer 50x CD-Rom
45gb IBM ata/100
SBLive! Value
Enlight Mid-Tower w/300w ps

For a grand, I would go w/ a Tbird and an ASUS or ABIT, prolly the KT7-raid and a good ata-100 HDD like the IBM Deskstar.... There are a # of sites (including Anandtech) that have builders guides for what the recommend, and almost all of them recommend the AMD line for gamers. With good competion, it's hard to make a 'wrong' choice, as long as you don't buy low end stuff and try to get by. :)

If I were you I'd go with the Asus A7V mobo and a Duron 700 or 800 cpu. I just put mine together and I love it. Got the 700mhz and the mobo for $300 CDN. Saved so much by not going with Intel and it's a great machine. Plays every game I've tried so smoothly.

Not a hardcore gamer and you're buying a GTS? What, do you not care about value for money or are you a fashion victim?

Don`t overlook the MSI K7T PRO2 board (IMHO better then the Asus or Abit)the 650/700 Duron would be a good bet for overclocking.

Look at the MSI K7T Pro2, and add a Duron 700 or 800. I don't think you need the GeForce GTS, look into a Radeon maybe, or a GeForce MX.
