Building a video editing gig..help needed...!!!

Hi,
Im planning to assemble a a computer for my video editing. My budget is around $1200. I already have the monitors.

I have decided to go for Core 2 Duo 6700.

What motherboard will be the best for it ??
And I need 2 GB Ram...kingston ??

A good stable videocard under $300 ??

And a decent sound card under $100-$150 ??

Hard disks...Western Digitals ??..I have been screwed by seagate many times over...

First of all, welcome to the forums

Next up, I would suggest that you look in the general hardware forum for advise of this nature. I am not trying to be a jerk, but we do try to keep things in their proper location.

That's fair I suppose, and something that I honestly didn't think of... usually OPs lead off by mentioning that they want to make is a SFF... and he is asking a lot of general hardware questions.

If you truly want to edit and would like to learn to use the same tools that professionals are using to edit TV and film right now I would advise you to get a mac. The barebones editing of Final Cut will do everything you need up to professional color correction and some other pro tools.

I have 3 pcs but I still edit on a aging G4 mac because Final cut pro is THAT good. Everything else short of a Avid turn key system is just a toy.



If you have to have a PC. Get alot of fast drives. Fast processor, and a decent midrange GFX card since most of the rendering is done via CPU. A quad would do more good since you would have that much more horsepower to render and preview effects.

With the way things are now....all you really need to be concerned about is a fast harddrive and plenty of RAM. If you are still using analog, however, I still think a hardware decoder is still best.
