Building A System To Overclock...

I am building this sytem just to overclock it and have some fun, eventually i'll use it for others things though...

here are the parts I picked out, and I just want to hear what others have to say or maybe reccomend a better part that might overclock better...

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 939 Processor

BFG Tech Geforce 6800GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card

DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra

Lian Li PC-65B Silver Aluminum ATX (fits perfect for the vapochill)

OCZ EL DDR PC-4000 Gold VX 512MB Stick (I can always add another later, but for OC'ing I want 1 for now)

OCZ PowerStream ATX12V 600W Power Supply (i mighr be using pelts, to I want the 600w, and the adjustable rails)

Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000 RPM SATA

I'll probably put together a GPU watercooling system and hook my vapochill i bought a while ago to it...


Just want to hear what other OC'ers think, maybe go with the twinmos RAM instead ect...

I think you will have some good luck with that setup, I would stick with that memory too. I have one question, if this is just for playing around on and seeing what kind of overclock you can get, why go with the 6800GT and the Raptor????

well it'll first be for just playing around, and I want to OC the 6800GT also, but eventually it'll be working in tandom with my backup rig...plus I already have raptor I can use in it...

like i said I can always add it later...but when you seriously OC'ing 256 MB's is actually best....

I feel you, but what kind of fun is it to overclock it without something you'll need for the best real world performance. There's no better way to test out a new overclock than to fire up Battlefield2 and mow people down at 80+ FPS. How are you going to do that with 512mb of RAM??

I dunno, maybe it's just me, but if adding another stick of RAM was going to hurt my overclock then I would just start off with the 1GB to get a realistic overclocking figure.

Cause it would piss me off if adding another stick of RAM (which I was going to have to do anyway) made me lower my recently achieved overclock.

Nevertheless, system looks good, let us know how it goes.

I'm building the same exact setup minus the vapochill, mines all air cooled, so we'll compare notes when my PS finally comes. I've waited over a week for this stupid thing.

yeah I know what you mean about having to lower the OC...but my goal is to do some late night tinkering and try and get the highest OC I can get just so i can run a couple of benchies...even if its not completely stable....ohh the possiblities... :beer:
 
That 600 Watt Powestream is more than you'll ever need with that system. You'd be fine with a quality 430 Watt one if you want to save a few $$.
