I am building a computer for a friend and I am trying to decide for AMD or Pentium 4

He Says he has a shitload of money (2000) lol

i plan as of now (i start low and upgrade up)

Asus mobo
Antec 500W (neo he maybe)
Nvidia 7900GT (maybe gtx if i don't sli the sucker)
some type of case (i g2 ask what he wants)
2 Corsair ram
Dvd-burner
probably 250GB WD

dell 19" LCD

If i sli i'll do 2 7900GT's for him but if i do non-sli i'll do gtx.. at least as of now.

well anyways i need to choose if i get pentium or amd
tyhsi rig would NOT be oc'd and this rig would NOT be watercooled so i need something fast (x2 or p d (dual core)) but still a cool system because he would be gaming (oblivion for example)

I need parts for power but also reliabiliy

Enermax Liberty 400W - 600W Range power supply
eVGA 7900GTX
WD 250GB, sata3gb, SE16 hard drive..
2GB minimum ddr

AMD. Intel only get a look in if you can't afford a $300 CPU and demand dual core, otherwise they get thrashed soundly.

some ideas:

don't bother with SLI, but if you do, pick up an asus a8n-sli premium

otherwise, asus a8n-e, x2 3800+, and maybe drop the psu and get a sonata II which comes with a smartpower 450w which has all the goodies (pci-e, sata & 24pin power)

see if he can live with a smaller hdd, a good choice for gamers would be either the 74gb raptor or one of the 150gb raptor flavors.

amd x2 3800 or 4200

with the 19" dell you aren't gonna get over 1280x1024 resolution

im gonna say go with the sli since he has the cash now and it will extend his upgrade cycle

i would get the single 7900gtx and definitely go with AMD

case is preference
psu: 450-550w psu. antec, fortron, seasonic, enermax all good
motherboard: lots of options...non-sli there's the asus a8n-e and the epox 9npa+
cpu: the x2 3800 is the best bang for the buck but you could get the x2 4400 for $60-70 more (200MHz faster). if you have a lot of money left over, get the x2 4400+
gpu: 7900gtx. i'd wait a week or two just to see more benchmarks.
hdd: western digital SE16 250gb (16mb cache). a raptor isn't a bad option either
ram: g.skill CL 2.5 value ram (2x1gig) for $145 or corsair CL 3 value ram ($140)
optical: dvd burner obviously...brand is up to you

don't get a dell 19". it only goes up to 12x10 resolution so get a 20" (they get up to 1600x1200 resolution) dell's 20" isn't bad but there are others too

do amd 64 fx good processor or would it be better to get a amd 64 instead ?? i heard (maybe from a few posts up i don't remembeR) x2's sometimes have problem with games and if they do i don't want to get him that just to save him troubleshooting problems.
