I have never built a PC before, so I was wondering what the best way would be to start. I am not looking to build a hardcore gaming PC. I use my computer mostly to surf the net, listen to a lot of music and watch movies on it and thats about it. Should I choose my motherboard first? the case first? where should I start...and any other tips or websites would be nice.

Thanks

I would check out the Value SOHO and Value Gaming system guides right here at Anandtech.

xZeusx,

Start with the motherboard: It will tell you everything you need to know...

Also stay off the cutting edge a little (don't buy the newest stuff) or you're PC will end up costing You a lot more than You could buy one for out of the store...

And use PriceWatch to find out alot of stuff and make comparisons.

Best wishes and Love You!

Also, so You don't make the same mistake I did... To turn the PC that You build off with the button on the case, You have to hold it In for about five seconds... When I built my PC I had no knowledge of PCs and I thought the switch was broken and ordered a new one... Duh. :(
