Howdy all,

I have $1100.00 to spend on a new PC. I am definitly a gamer and have been shopping around a lot (newegg & tigerdirect) but can't seem to pull anything less than $1300.00!!

I am trying to seperate hardware by the "good, better, best" options, and then mix and match to get everything in my price range. I know that everyone here knows what their talking about, so I'm asking for some guidence. Remember, only $1100.00!!!

Also, no links, just let me know the model and where you got it from... Oh yeah, I heard Intel is dropping prices on their C2D's at the end of this month!

P.S. - This PC is for 95% gaming and 5% other.

Thanks everyone!!!:)

This will play everything you throw at it, even at highest settings.

And you can overclock that E6420 into Oblivion if you are into that sort of thing.

Under budget!! Nicely done.

I guess I'm hesitant to get a mobo that isn't SLI. I'd really like to know what the future of PC gaming is going to be. Is SLI going to be a new standard, will single video cards even be able to run new games by themselves?

I won't be running SLI anytime soon, but if I buy an 8800 GTS 320 SC now, and in a year or two when I do go to SLI, won't this card be 'behind'? I'd end up buying two cards. I guess I'm just worried about jumping in the water (buying parts now). I mean, AMD is putting out its K10 sometime and ATI is also coming out with DX10 cards. Should I wait for those two things before I spend this money?

sigh!

Buying a mid-range card now and adding one later to SLI is not cost-effective for the performance you get out of it. Either buy a high-end card now or a mid-range one and save up for a better card down the line (when you can sell the first). As far as I'm concerned, SLI is unneccessary and a waste of money unless you're running an ultra-high resolution.

Yeah, good point(s).

I'm running an older PC now. I bought it in 2001 from Best Buy. It's a VPR Matrix 2000

P4 2.0Ghz
1GB PC2100 (2x512mb)
NVIDIA 5700 256mb (4x agp tho)
120GB HDD

I can run Call of Duty 2, CS:S, Guild Wars, etc... but when I try BF2142 it looks more like BF1642!!!!

I want a gaming PC that will run everything. I only have a 17inch LCD, so my resolution will be 1280x1024ish. I'm not going to Vista for a while, so DX10 is out of the equation. AMD's X2 6000+ looks nice. I don't need the best, but I don't want to make a mistake with an AM2.

 Forget SLI. IT's more trouble than it's worth. Get a good card now, and don't worry about it later.
