??? building a pc

i am trying to build a new pc. i have been using newegg. i was wondering if the following items are all compatible.

I agree. Go with amd (cheaper and better), get faster ram, and a better vid card.

Can I suggest some changes:

1) Get a Northwood-core CPU, the 2.8C with 512kb of L2 cache. More compatible, lower heat production, and more often than not they perform better too

2) Get two PC3200 memory modules, I would get Mushkin, Crucial, Corsair or Kingston and not Rosewill ("Rosewill?" ). Two modules allows dual-channel operation and PC3200 is what a 2.8GHz CPU is going to be looking for.

3) Get a high-quality case/power supply. I've heard mixed remarks about Aspire. Could you afford an Antec Sonata or else an Antec SLK3700AMB? Those would look nice with black drives btw

4) I'd avoid the WD hard drives due to them sometimes developing a nasty bearing whine as they get older (or even when new). Seagate or Hitachi models use fluid bearings that should run quietly and stay that way.

5) PC Chips... uh... How about Asus or Abit? For one thing, that PC Chips board only has two memory slots, meaning that if you went with two 256MB modules for dual-channel operation, you're done, no more room for upgrades. Also, I'm not even sure from the description if the board has dual-channel capability.

6) Considered an AMD solution? For the $179 price of the 2.8E, you could have an Athlon64 2800+ and some dineros left over towards a budget A64 motherboard. Check jpeyton's system-builder thread for some possible spec ideas.

what about them is bad?? i have a $750 budget. that is about 540. use for gaming, internet, music, and school

i totally agree with nick's system except for the case. i'd have to recommend you the antec bqe edition, either the 2650 or the 3700. sorry spaz, but teh original setup you listed has to be the worst compilation i've ever seen. you will find a MUCH better in performance in everything going wtih nick's setup. i cant say the P4 setup you listed is better in encoding since the ram sux horribly and was only single channel. i'm not even sure that PC chips motherboard supports dual channel.
