Building a PC~

Well my brother has asked me to help him build a new PC. He's mainly going to use it for playing games like CoD 4, Lineage 2, BF2, and HL2 with the occasional video rendering project with Vegas. Going to buying from the US his budget is about $1200, can go to as much as. He is going to be reusing his Audigy 2 ZS sound card and a Zalman CNPS9500 and he does intend to overclock it.

So far I'm looking at the following setup

Antec P182 - $140
Intel E8400 - $230
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R - $127
Corsair 520HX - $120
EVGA 8800GT - $220 from microcenter
G Skill 4gb (2x2gb) - $94
Seagate Barracuda 500gb 7200.11 - $120

This puts it at about $1,051, any suggestions or advice on things to change would be appreciated. Basically looking to see if the parts are giving the best bang for the price. Thanks!

Motherboard might be a little overkill unless you need all the features, look at the next model down.

Don't need to buy a factory overclocked video card when you can do it yourself. Microcenter has those eVGA 8800 GTs for $230. Save the $30 bucks for gas or something.

Alternative CPU would be Intel E8400, you won't see much of a difference in performance aside from benchmarking numbers, but the E8400 is cheaper, around $220. It's a toss up really. I'd save the extra $50 for something else.

Check the Hot Deals sections to see if you can find some better deals, but overall a solid build.

I took your advice and made some changes. Decided to go w/ the DS3R, the cheaper card, and the e8400. Appreciate the input.

Since you're using your own soundcard and it doesn't look like you need RAID, you might consider saving yourself $30 more and going with the P35-DS3L.

Looks solid! Pull the trigger fairly soon so you can take advantage of the rebate on that P182.
