Building a pc on a budget

Hi I hope this is the right forum for this question.
I am based in the UK and thinking about building my own PC.
Unfortunately components are far more expensive in this country than in the US.
I have looked at buying from some of the US sites that offer really good deals but I think I would be faced with an extortionate customs and duty tax bill, which would not make it worth my while.
Is this right and does anyone know of a way round this.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I can't think of a way around it besides having a friend or relative buy them and resend them to you...
