Building a PC. Need Help

I'm building a PC and i took a mobo & cpu from a wooking pc and put it in my new case. Plugged everything back in and when i turn it on...Nothing showed up on the monitor. I checked and recheck the Graphic card to see if it's in. But no luck. What is going on?

Right now, all i have that's in the computer is: Mobo, Celeron 533, TNT2.

No ram, hard drive, or cd-rom drive plug in.

I do get the computer to power on though. But the monitor doesn't show up anything. What could be the problem do you guys know?

Do i have to set the CMOs to reset?

Do I have to adjust the Jumper to the correct Multiplier and Front side bus?

If that's not helpful, you might have better luck in the General Hardware forum.

Yes, try putting some RAM in there. Also, check all your cables.

Put the RAM in.

You need RAM in there, otherwise your computer will fail to POST.

Just put in 256mb of PC150 SDRam....

It post once @ 600mhz (75fsb x 8 multiplier)

After that i turn it off and then on again, nothing shows up.

I tried resetting the bios, putting it back to the original specified spec of the CPU (66fsb x 8 multiplier)
Nothing works..

There's beep from the speaker though....sounds like moorse code.

There's a heatsink and a fan that seems like it's for a graphic card attached to it lol.

this is such a pain...i don't know what is going on....I've put together and take apart so many PCs and i don't know why this doesn't work.

You do have a HSF on your processor, right? Or at least just a heatsink? If not maybe it's toast.

yes they're on my processor. I'm not that dumb. I replaced it with some Artic Silver II before i put everything together also.

There should be a jumper to reset the BIOS, jumper that and/or pull the battery out of the mobo for a minute and put it back in. It should boot up that way OK.

why don't you find the jumper on the mb to reset cmos and let the comp come up at default speed ?


also get the manual for your motherboard... those beeps are telling you what the problem is

 

Did you read your motherboard manual? Try checking to be sure you've complied with the primary instructions and set-ups. Many of them usually tell what each beep kind symbolises, so you can easily sort out the problem. Also, check on compatibility of each components with the other.
