Building a new system

Hi everyone,
I'm planning to invest in the following system. Since I am not a pro, I would like to ask you guys for your opinions about this build. Feel free to criticize.

CPU: Intel P4 660 3.6GHz 800MHz 2MB LGA775
RAM: OCZ DDR2 PF 2x1024M PC2-4200
HD: (2) Maxtor 250GB MaXLine III SATA 16M 7200RPM
PSU: OCZ POWER STREAM 520W
Motherboard: P5AD2E Premium i925XE LGA775
Cooler for CPU: ZALMAN CNPS7700-ALCU (for LGA775)
Video Card: Asus EN6600GT/TD128 GeForce 6600GT 128MB DDR3 SLI DVI TVO
Case: ??? Thermaltake Xaser V V7000A Wingo ATX Black full Tower
Burner: PIONEER DVDRW 16X INT. IDE DVR-109

However you are going to need a more powerful fan for that CPU. Try this one.

what are you using it for? if gaming, then get rid of that pressure cooker Intel and get an AMD.

whats this computer going to be for ? if its gaming might wanna switch over to amd cehaper and better for gaming

I do play games, but not to death, so I think my P4 with its HT will be an advantage to run GAUSS on.

Yes, that is a great fan for the Prescott. Just make sure your motherboard is listed on Zalman's site. That fan does not fit several motherboards.

Yes, that is a great fan for the Prescott. Just make sure your motherboard is listed on Zalman's site. That fan does not fit several motherboards.

The mobo is compatible with that fan.

What do you think about the RAM. Will it make a huge difference to have 1Gb or 2Gb (which is more $$$).

I would just go with one gig. Two gigs is not needed right now. You can always add more later when (and if) you need it.

You might want to link into something like an ATI 800XL or 6800GT or something. With such a high-end rig, it would be a waste to only have a close to midrange video card.

A 6600GT performs about the same as a 6800. A regular 6800 is so crippled, there is no reason to go with it.

I would stick with the 6600GT if you change video cards once a year to year and a half (like I do) or go with the X800XL (as suggested above), to have more longevity.

A X800XL is on par with a 6800GT (except in games that use and will use the Doom 3 engine).

Wow.....looks like there's a whole lot of people whom don't know a whole lot about the 600 series Intel chips! Yeah, I'll agree that gaming wise, the AMD's are much better, but, heat wise.........these aren't the S478 chips your daddy told you about.........I had to have one just.........well, just because I wanted one and built a S775 with a 640 chip. My 3200+ Venice runs about 31C with an XP90/Panaflo.......My 3700+ San Diego runs about 34C with an XP90/Panaflo and my 640 runs about 32C with an XP90/Panaflo.......

If you want a gaming rig, get the AMD......if you're into encoding or multitasking, or just an Intel guy, don't worry about the S775 6oo series and heat.

i turned my 6800nu into a gt by unlocking the extra pipes and shaders and then overclocking. personally i love it.. just my experience
