Building a new system

Well first off im building my own system but its been a while since i built my last one. Im looking for tips on what to install utilities wise to check my system out and make sure everything assembled is running good.
heres my list of components:
msi k8n neo plat
amd 64 3200
1 gig corsair value select
evga 6800gt
80gig WD sata HD
antec sonata case w/ 380w ps

Any tips would be appreciated, thanks all.
 
I made a guide for first-timers, which may not be of direct interest to you, but the Resources page has some tips on dealing with worm-proofing, since a "raw" WindowsXP/2000 installation is vulnerable to worms like Sasser and MSBlaster even before you open a browser... just being plugged directly into a broadband modem is all it takes. If you have a router, that's a good first line of defense, though 🙂 Hope that's some help 🙂
