I will be getting value ram, and at newegg the corsair ones are only about $80 per stick, so the price isnt that bad. Will I notice much of a difference going from a gig to 2 gigs in gaming or in other applications?

Thanks for the help.

Also, if I go with one gig, should i get it in 2x512 instead of 1x1giga?

depends. what motherboard do you have? if it supports dual channel then u 2x 512 will be faster than 1x 1...but u may want 2 gigs and run 2x 1gig dual channel in the future. im gonna get 2x 512 because its a lot cheaper.

For most current games 1gb is plenty. About the only apps that currently take advantage of more ram, are video encoding and editing and CAD and graphics design apps.

This will probabaly change in the next few years. If you've got the extra cash 2gb will come in handy eventually.

I think this should be in the General Hardware forum... Anyways, 2GB is only needed if you're playing huge MMORPG's like Everquest, or if you're doing a TON of video encoding/editing.

Some say that most Photoshop work doesn't need more than 1GB, which may or may not be true, but if you plan on multitasking with Photoshop and other things (especially memory-hungry apps like other ones by Adobe), 2GB could be useful. My next system will most likely have 2GB. :)

Agreed with the other posters. If you're playing WOW/EQ2 or designing levels you should get 2 gigs. Otherwise 1 gig is enough.
