Not shure you can reasonably consider 9700 series given the budget constraints, even getting an Intel Chip in that budget with the rest of the stuff is not really a possability. Might want to look at the list I made and go from there if you want one thing or dont want another make changes but your gonna have to decide.

Win98SE is a little old, but I use it on my gaming rigs since I hate the new Microsoft policy of calling them every time I upgrade my hardware. I still think you are best off with XP2100, 512 meg memory, and a Radeon 9500 pro. The parts that mjolnir2k mentioned are good except the viseo card. The 9500 pro will cost $30 more, and is way better IMO. Another motherboard to consider is the Asus Nforce2 (A7N8X??).

Buy the OS if im right win XP can utilize RAM more effectivly to the 512 point where Win 98 can only use 256 RAM efficiently. What you should do Is manage without a video card for a while if you can, maybe use the PCI card your old computer probably has (BTW what GPU did your old computer have?) untill the ATI vs Nvidia feasco has settled. ATI is putting out 9900 series cards to replace the 9700 cards with the R350 core at the end of March, Nvidia has yet to release their FX card to the market. Once these two events occure all cards should drop in price by a good amount and by then if you manage to save up a bit more you might be able to get the 9700 Pro for about $200.

My old computer has an onboard GPU, sis 630/730. That's why I scored only 306 marks for 3dmark2001 SE. I'm just wondering if I can play BF1942, Neverwinter, SimCity 4 smoothly using only the nForce2 GPU, AMD XP 2100+, 512mb RAM. I'm comfortable playing in 800x600 16bit.

Is there integrated graphic in the Asus A7N8X and the MSI K7N2G-LISR?
