Building a new PC

So i am building a new PC. Have a laptop but need a PC to do video editing and some gaming (i.e FSX). Want to stay around $1k for the setup. I would other from newegg, amazon or go to microcenter (have oen by my house). I need firewire but I just thinking of running a cable form the back

So here's what I came up with

Also looking for a suggestion for a cheaper SSD for OS, apps and scratch space

Okay, well here are my suggestions

CPU- get the i5-2500k it is very similar to the i7

GPU- HD 5770 or better IMHO and at $1k you should be able to fit it in.

RAM- this RAM is as much as you need dont spend more.

HDD- the samsung spinpoint F3 1TB is cheaper and performs the same.

Case- It's fine i guess if it's your taste.

PSU- This antec is much better.

SSD- Samsung or OCZ

OP, the 5670+2600K would be fine if you were doing 95% video editing and 5% gaming. Just be aware that the 5670 is limited in terms of the detail level and resolution that it can handle.

I would not go with the 400w Antec recommended above in case you want to add a more powerful graphics card or other components later. And instead of the 500w Corsair you listed, I would go with its 600w brother, not only does that give you more headroom but right now it has a rebate making it $15 less than the 500w brother:

Also for video editing, do you use Adobe? I would go with an nVidia video card to take advantage of CUDA and acceleration it offers with some programs - and I think more should be incorporating it later to take advantage of its performance enhancement:

Buy the PSU later if you need to upgrade it, you will just be adding more heat to the computer by buying a bigger PSU now.
