Building a new PC

Hello!

I'm planning to build a high-end PC in the near future, and after some internet research, I have some questions regarding certain release dates.

The three problematic components are:
  • Athlon64 FX-53 939 Chipset
  • Mainboard with 939 Chipset, PCI-Express
  • ATI Radeon X800 Platinum Edition PCI-Express

As far as I know, the release date of the A64 FX-53 939 is May 2004, and therefore, a mainboard supporting that processor should obviously surface just weeks after its release, right? Hopefully.

PCI-Express, however, is the true problem. I've heard that the first mainboards supporting it should appear in Q2 2004, so my question is: Does anybody know if a mainboard is planned that supports both 939 and PCI-E, and if so, when would it be released? Is it also true that PCI-Express slots are backwards compatible with PCI?

I've also heard that the X800 is shipping in AGP and PCI-Express editions. Are they, by any chance, released simultaneously, or when will the PCI-E version be available?

Since I'm planning to build the PC in the near future, it would be ideal for all components to be in stores in max. 3 months.

Thanks for your help!

All of the equipment you listed should be released by June 1, 2004. I imagine you will see retailers selling the merchandise within a month after this date (939 CPU's).

There should be PCI-E 939 motherboards released June 1 and PCI-E video cards shortly after that date!
