Building a new PC - question about MoBo mounting...

Probably a very simple question:

I picked up one of those Athlon XP 1800/ECS Mobo/Fudin Case combos at Fry's last weekend. I opened up the case and it only came with 3 riser screws, and they seem to be too tall because when I put them in, they put the Mobo I/O ports higher than the holes in the back of the case. The case does have a bunch of bumps where the holes in the mobo line up. Am I supposed to screw the Mobo directly onto the mounting board in the case? Or is there something I'm supposed to do with the 3 risers?

Thanks,

Somewhere in the case there should have been a bag of screws and other such hardware. I am not familiar with your exact case, but there should be 8 or 9 riser screws and/or "U" shaped clips that would go into the notch on either side of all the appropriate holes (if your tower uses these). DO NOT screw the motherboard directly to the motherboard plate or you will short it out and probably ruin it the first time you throw juice to it.

There are some cases that do not require standoffs. yours may be one of them. If there are bumps or elevated areas for mounting points you probably do not need them. If putting standoffs in the screwholes makes the motherboard about 1/4" to high they are not needed.

Thanks for responding.

There is a bag of screws in the case, and that bag contains exactly 3 stand-offs, which is not enough to mount the mobo securely even if they were the right height. If I need them, there should be more of them, and if I don't need them, why are they even there?

if it's the case i'm thinkin' of , you don't need the standoffs . the bumps should be just the right highte. one exception will be on the lower left corner where a plastic clip might slide into a squared groove . the bag they give you seems to be very generic. like it's for a number of different cases. i assembled one like this for a friend with the cheepest case fry's has ($25) and while it was a pretty crapy case , it worked.
good luck

Screwed the mobo right to the bumps, booted with no problem!

Thanks for the help.
