Building A New Laptop - Need A Chassis

so, my dog decided to pull the power cord to my laptop, which was sitting on my desk and still plugged into the laptop... it fell to the ground and now i get no picture on the laptop when it powers up.

fucking awesome.

so, now, i'd like to start pricing for a new laptop chassis to take out all the parts to my old laptop and put it into the new chassis. anyone have any ideas where to find a new chassis for cheap?

honestly, I've never seen anyone sell chassis only for laptops... I might just need to own up and get a new one. But I guess if you really need a chassis, your best bet would be contacting the manufacturer and see if they sell it or eBay.

but i wouldnt invest too much into it. impact damage can cause lots of internal problems

meh fuck it... i can't find any reasonably priced ones. i bought one a long time ago when i built my brother a laptop from scratch. cant' find any to fit my budget or need.

I believe you need a new LCD panel, not a chassis.

actually, i think i need a new motherboard... the only thing is that i'm kinda tired of my laptop anyway because it's huge and cumbersome. so, i was kinda hoping to rip out its guts and put it in a new case.

shrug.

nothing happened to the lcd... the lcd casing bent a little, but that's about it. not any cracks or anything. the lcd is still connected to the mobo.

Have you tried connecting it to an external display to see if it's kicking out any video?

no. wouldn't i need to get into windows in order to change the display to external?

also, there's no dvi input on the laptop.

No VGA either? You should still get some sort of video during the POST and boot up.

Regardless, its generally not a good idea to try build your own laptop from scratch. Too many variables, the high price of components, if you can even find them, etc.

Sounds like you have an older laptop anyway. Better to just buy a new laptop, unless you dead one has any warranty left?

there's a vga, but i don't have a dvi-vga converter... only vga-dvi.

i've already built a laptop from scratch. it was more expensive, but i did it. i gave it as a gift to my brother.

it's not too old... core duo, 100gb hdd, 7600gt, 2gb ddr2-800 ram... but it isn't under warranty anymore

You don't have any monitors with VGA connections? Even very high end LCD monitors have VGA connectors (it goes without saying cheapo LCDs have VGA).

Also, the laptop should have a Function key to switch on the external display without booting into windows. You press the "Fn" key and the key with a picture of a square (supposed to be a screen/display) to turn it on.
