This is primarily a gaming build, my budget being around $2,000 CDN. I'm building from scratch as I haven't done so in quite a while and decided it was time to do so again. I'm not worried about waiting for new technology to come out and whatnot- I'd like to get this built in the next couple weeks.

I run two monitors, a 24" at 1920x1200 and a 20.1" at 1680x1050, the 24" being my primary. So far I am looking at the following build, patched together by looking at various threads in these forums, but I'm unsure on a couple parts.

Case: COOLER MASTER Storm Sniper ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16811119194 - $129.99

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD3 LGA 1156 Intel P55
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16813128412 - $139.99

GPU: EVGA SuperClocked GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 1536MB 384-bit
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16814130590 - $525.19

PSU: CORSAIR HX Series CMPSU-750HX 750W
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16817139010 - $149.99

CPU: Intel Core i5-760 Lynnfield
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16819115067 - $214.99

SSD : Intel X25-M 120GB
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16820167035 - $239.99

Memory: 2x G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16820231313 - $142.98

Storage: SAMSUNG Spinpoint F4 HD204UI 2TB 5400 RPM
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16822152245 - $104.99

Sound Card: Creative X-Fi Titanium
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16829102024 - $99.99

The above parts bring the total to $1750.

I DO plan on overclocking and I will justify the sound card by saying that I have a good set of speakers and I am a bit of an audiophile (however if there is a better alternative than the one I have listed I'm open to suggestions). The 2TB drive will be used primarily for storage (I have a 1TB drive already that is full to the brim which will also be included in the build) along with a dvd/cd burner I will use from a previous build.

I'm fairly set on the i5-760 and the GTX-580. I need to add a CPU heatsink into the build but I can't decide which. If you could give me a few options to choose from that would be great - I've looked at a few but I want to make sure I don't get one that is going to be way too massive and not fit in the case - that said, I also would like to stick to a mid tower case.

I BELIEVE the 750W should be enough but please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm also not 100% set on the motherboard or memory yet- if there are better options around the same price let me know.

Are your speakers connected directly to your computer's analogue outputs?

I would definitely be getting a gold Seasonic PSU for that money, or an XFX silver for less.

Going to go with the OCZ over the Intel drive, thanks for pointing that out DominionSeraph.

As for the speakers- they're plugged into an an Audigy 2ZS in this machine that I could just salvage, but I find that the drivers/software creative supplies for it for Win7 are pretty lackluster so I wanted to get something more recent (though I'm not completely set on a particular card, just something that is new and supported). I could just be being stubborn on this point.

Also going to change to the XFX Silver PSU, I must have missed it when I was originally looking at them, thanks.

Any recommendations on CPU heatsinks? I know the 212+ comes highly recommended but I don't mind spending a bit more on something like a Tuniq Tower. Though I have to express concern about either of those fitting into the case, lol.

If your speakers even have the capability to plug into a 3.5mm minijack, chances are that they aren't that good. ;) Real speakers have screw down terminals. In short, ditch the sound card and save up for a real DAC, amp, and speaker setup.

Seraph and Sp12 have given you some good advice on the SSD and PSU, so I'll chime in on the HSF. The Storm Sniper is 10 (!) inches wide, so you should have plenty of room for whatever HSF you want. The Tuniq Tower is good, as are the Megahalems, Noctua U12P, and Frio.

Sorry, I probably worded that wrong. The speakers themselves are screw down. It's a set of Logitech Z-560 (4.1) speakers I've had for years now. It's just the amp that plugs into the 3.5mm jacks.

I think I'll go with the Tuniq Tower for the cooler then.
