Building a new comp

Newegg Wish List

Ok, i'm building a new comp, and i wanted to see if anybody has any opinions/reccomendations for different parts. Before anybody says i don't have a PSU in the list, i know that, i'm pulling the OCZ powerstream 520 out of my old comp and putting it in this one. I'm particularly interested to see if anybody thinks i should go with the SI-120 over the ninja (which i will be putting a fan on) for the purpose of overclocking.

I love my Si-120. My processor is running at 250x10@30c idle, 36c load. I couldn't be happier. Good choice on Parts by the way. It looks good.

looks pretty good. The plextor DVD burner is way overpriced, I'd go with an NEC or BenQ for closer to $40. Then spend the extra money to go to 2gb of ram.

dude i didn't even know DVD burners came that expensive. save $70 and get a cheaper one. i'd drop the extra DVD drive but if you really want it to save a couple minutes whle burning, then i guess it should stay. since you're planning to OC, why not get an opteron 165?

He's right - get the NEC for $35.

Furthermore, you have 3 floppy drives there??

Use the spare money to get 2GB of RAM.

Hmm, add to wish list function must have bugged when i did the floppy, thanks for catching it. As for burners, which burner would you reccomend?

NEC 3550A

any particular reason for that burner? How does it perform against the px-716, or the px-740? I would like to have a fairly reliable and fast burner that also reads fast in this machine.

I have 3 of them..and never had a problem with any of them, not a single coaster. I also have an older 2510A and no problems with it either.

Plextor reliability is its' strong point. Failure rate very low. A good number of people swear by them. However, many people on other forums are using the NEC with success. You will have to be the final judge.

ok, well i've figured out that if i go with a 740 and get 2 gigs of OCZ performance ram instead of the gold series it's pretty much cost neutral, so i'll probably just do that. Anybody know how well the ocz overclocks? I'm hoping to get to a 240X10 OC on the system.
