wow thanks for the info. I believe I am pretty much set for waht I am getting. I am going to go with the 1.0 mobo. I already have the 8800gts 512 and with the mobo I picked out but have not ordered yet looks like the vid card might touch the the south bridge heatsink. Will this be a problem? should I look for another mobo? that does not have the south bridge heatsink so close to the pci e socket.

I have that exact card and motherboard (v2) setup you're looking it - I'm typing on it right now in fact. The card fits fine and slips right over that heatsink, it is close but they do not touch. Just make sure you have good case cooling and airflow and you'll be all set. They're a great combo, btw you should be pleased with those choices.
 
If you find yourself getting more and more involved in editing video, note that 3 drives is going to be a better solution (1 for OS, apps, 1 for Video Source, 1 for Scratch/Render).
 
Well comp is built and running pretty sweet. Thanks to all. I now have one problem though. Hauppage HVR 1800 will not work on my system. I have tried their drivers and nothing. I am trying to tranfer VHS to my hard drive. My system sees the card but will not use it except for cable tv viewing. Does anyone else have this card and Vista 64 with 4 gigs of ram? Is there a better capture card out there? I was looking at this one but am not set on it.
