Building a New AMD64 Computer but stuck on the right ram

Hi All,

I am new here as you can tell from my post count. I have lurked for a while and read a bunch of threads about people asking advice for new computers. Some of those threads are close to the computer I want but not providing the advice I need about ram. Here is the computer I am thinking about building. I currently have a Dell 2.2 GHZ so there is very little there I can salvage for a new comp. For my new computer, I am looking to overclock to 2.5-2.6 GHZ depending on how the CPU does. My big choices right now is the best ram to use for the buck. I would like to use Corsair value or XMS ram depending on how they are with overclocking. What are people's experiences OCing with value ram or is it recommended to get XMS type ram. If XMS is recommended, do I go with the XMS3200LL or something a little cheaper? Thanks for your help in advance. Here are my specs as of now for the new computer:

$160.50

the 7700 wont fit on the neo2 platinum....if you're willing to spend 280 on a gig of ram you might as well get the ocz platinum rev2.......its the best ram for overclocking right now especially if you want a 1:1 ratio

OCZ is always a sure bet. I have the Enhanced Latency Platinum Edition, its been running great so far on really tight timings. Check it out on Newegg

what kind of FSB can it hit? higher than 295?

I also wanna know about this. I'm also gonna get the 3000 939, so the question is, if I wanted to OC this to 2.4 or even 2.6, what ram would I choose??

Hi, thanks for the help guys. What cooler would you recommend then, I would like to stick with a Zalman though. Also I have been hearing good things about Corsair TWINX1024-4400C25 1GB Kit DDR550 XMS4400 Memory. Any thoughts about using that instead? Thanks

Er Inquis, from a Price/Preformance Perspective, go with the G.Skill.

Edit: oh and Nick, is the 295 FSB typically? (I'd rather not have to do all that research).

well its 275 stock. in some reviews it goes over 300. mine is at 295 at CAS 2.5 latency at only 2.8volts. im sure if i lower the cas latency to 3 and upped the voltage it would go over 300....

I have the Corsair Value Select running @235fsb on my Shuttle @2.5-3-3 one stick. A friend of mine has his up to 222fsb dual channel on a Prescott system. Hard to beat the price/perfromance on the value select and you can just run a divider like Computer man said.

If I were to want to run my 3200+ to 2.6ghz, I'd have to be going at around 260*10 and with a 1:1 ratio, that means my RAM would need to be able to get to 260 right? So if this the case (and please tell me if it is not, I'm new to OCing), would the g.skill be overkill? If I'm trying to go on a budget, what would I choose? I'm hearing good things about the Patriot 3200 at 2-3-2-6 without XBL, would it be able to get to 260?

The $235 G.Skill ram is back at NewEgg and I want to makesure it is the same G.Skill people are telling me to go with. Here is the info. Thanks

G.skill (Samsung TCCD) Dual Channel Kit 184-Pin 1GB(512MB x 2) DDR PC-4400, Model F1-3200DSU2-1GBLD - Retail
