And as a side note, the battlements and towers have all been added on. I have also completed the basic structure of the palace complex. Now, I need to form the small housing units in the longer part of the walls, as well as paint the palace complex a beige sort of color, to distinguish it from the battlement crownings.

So, essentially, it is finished, architectually, but I feel I need to do more with it. It is going on schedule to be completed tomorrow around 8:00PM PST, hopefully. Pics will follow tomorrow and the day after. Hopefully it'll be done by then!

Looking good! I'm glad you didn't put in a most because theres no black knight that the city needs to be protected from.

How do you plan on transporting that once you finish it? It looks like the sand will shift around if moved.

The sand is pressed firmly into the clay. Trust me, the clay was on the cement before I busted that up, it's not going anywhere. :p

The rest of the sand was glued/pressed into the clay, and it doesn't matter, because the more sand lost, the better. Saves me some time of brushing the stuff off.

Transporting it will consist of my pa and I driving to school a couple days before the things due, and hauling it up.

this rules, in a super geeky way that surprisingly impresses me.

when finished, are you going to terrorize the citizens and destroy your creation with a giant foam tornado, or Krakken-like creature? because that would be so cool.

No, this is going in for a grade, lol, if I/somebody else did that, I'd have a heart attack. Especially after all the mortar laying, and fiddling with glue and such.

But yeah. I'm glad you like it. :D

Thank you for the comments. I am 95% done. I just painted the interior complex a grayish beige, and then I will "stripe" it with thin layers of balsa wood.

Well, now I am 95% done. :p

I have painted the complex, and I have made hovels for the inhabitants of the bailey. I actually made pillars out of toothpicks, painted red, and I think they look pretty interesting. I also decorated the main courtyard, but the problem is my paint brushing isn't exact, and the pens I use to decorate are very inky, which can lead to undesirable results. So, it's been a whole day of painting, re-painting, fiddling around with various ideas.

Originally, for the complex, I was going to just stick balsa wood "columns" in a very 2-d way, but then I decided to incise into the painted clay, and create a 3-d space, and in that space, I produced 3-d pillars made of painted red toothpicks.

I then used tweezers and a file to file the toothpicks down to size and gingerly pluck them into that space.

It was very time consuming, but well worth it.

I'm on track for my projected finishing time of around 7:30 PST. I promise picks will be uploaded Monday earliest :)(), but I'm really happy with the way it's come along. Alot of the way it looks has been from incredible trial and error, which resulted (in my opinion) in more better results. If I had the time, energy, endless materials, and only one class to worry about, I'd naturally improve upon this any way I could. But right now, I gotta be happy with the way it is, and I hope I'm doing justice to the people who inhabited that massive fortress.

Hey, that's really cool!

I wish the internet and digital cameras had been around when I was in HS. In my sophomore Latin class we built a model of ancient Pompeii, with roads and buildings and trees and an erupting Vesuvius...it was awesome.

yeah, this is for school, so I knew I had an excuse to wreck the carpet--my mum wants to get new carpet anyway.
