building a laptop

Is it possible to custom build a laptop? If so, where would I hire the case and components and how would I do this? thanks

1: Go to the Dell/Compaq/Gateway web site and pick the components you want from one of the model lines
2: Order laptop
3: One you get it, take it apart
4: Build laptop

LOL!!!!!!
Man I SOOOOOOO wish it was possible, it just isn't. Not the least of the problems being they dont sell enough components to make one. All the big manufacturers have their own custom made boards for certain laptop models, hence why only big ones sell laptops instead of computer stores or people like emachines.

Actualy Emachines did sell laptops
Most every brand just buys models from an ODM in Taiwan on slaps a name sticker on it

Alienware makes laptops now. Also, if you want THE FASTEST laptop, there's no option other than the PowerBook G4. Since only a freak would even try to overclock a laptop, the incentive of an x86 based laptop is rather low. Also, does any hardcore gamer really use a laptop?

I would use a laptop. Playing games during a flight or during calculous would be a godsend. And Alienware doesnt make laptops. They outsource it to some other company. Bluebook I think. They arent even gaming systems, as they have that crappy onboard Intel crap.

On a side note, after leaving Sharky forums, I made my way here, but pretty much stuck in the Motherboard and cooling sections. I must say I'm amazed on how many replies I got to this in such a short period of time.
