Building a gaming pc please help

Guys i am building a new pc i am a complete noob so please help me

CPU: Intel Core i7 2500k or i7 2600k
M.B : ASUS Maximus IV GENE-Z LGA 1155
Power: Cooler Master PSU(SMPS) Silent Pro 700W
GFX-ATI 6950 2gb

I have a few questions to ask

1.Which cpu is better for gaming Intel i5 2500k or i7 2600k

2.Is this motherbord compatible for intel i7 or i5 also how much ram can be fitted into this motherboard

3.ATI 6950 will it be compatible with asus motherboard

4.Is 700w powersupply enough

1. The i5 is cheaper and has no hyper threading. The i7 is more expensive and has hyper threading. Hyper threading isn't really very useful for games so I would recommend the i5.

2. Yes and you can put up to 32GB of DDR3 in that motherboard.

3. You won't have any problems with that card and the motherboard.

4. More than enough for both parts at stock and overclocked.

i would go with the i5, the i7 is too wack.

the 700 power supply is perfect.

32GB is the maximum. 16GB is currently the maximum without paying through the nose for it! 😛

That motherboard seems expensive; but I don't know if you're looking for features like eSATA ports.

More than enough. Here's a $30 PSU After Promo After Rebate that should also be enough.

A 700W PSU is perfect? Are you daft? That's about 200W more than he needs for that rig.

OP, to answer your questions:

1. The i7 2600K is "better" but it's not worth the money. That extra $100 would be better spent somewhere else.
2. Yes, it is compatible and it can take 32GB with 8GB DIMMs. However is very likely not your best bet in terms of price/performance.. Look for an ASRock Z68 Pro3 or a GA-Z68A-D3H.
3. Yes.
4. Way overkill. It's better to get a lower-capacity but high quality PSU. Look for an XFX Core 550W or Antec HCG 520W.
 
What type of games do you expect to play on this rig? Do you plan on using it for anything else? What resolution are you going to be gaming at?

... or you could just fill the sticky thread out from the top of the general hardware forum 😀

PLEASE when you POST threads asking for input on system builds tell us...

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.

Pc will mostly be used for playing latest games like witcher2 and bf3 ,watching movies and surfing

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread

My budget is $1000-1200

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

India

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.

I would prefer intel cpu and ati gfx card.

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.

monitor,keyboard,mouse and headphone

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.

no i dont know how to overclock

8. What resolution YOU plan on gaming with.

1680 x 1050

9. WHEN do you plan to build it?

No. And that's comparing with a 970 which has more cache.

In case you were wondering, a 2600k is not worth the extra money for gaming.
