Building a Gaming Computer

How does this sound for a gaming computer? I just kind of need some suggestions.

CPU: AMD Athlon X2 64 4600+
GPU: Sapphire Radeon X1950XT
Memory: 2 GB (2x1GB) at 667 MHz
Motherboard: Supports all of above & Crossfire ready.

Anything wrong with this setup? Im trying my best to not spend a whole lot, and so far i like this setup for price. And i wouldn't mine setting up a Crossfire system later on.

The games im looking at running at 1024 x 768 are Battlefield 2, Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion, and probably Battlefield 2142. Any idea how these might run? Im mostly not sure about Oblivion.

currently, for a gaming machine, Intel seems to have won the crowd.

All I have to say is I hope you're getting a WD5000YS hard drive. My copy of Oblivion is around 15GB and it really helps to have a decent speed HDD.
 
there is no need for a Core 2 duo for gaming. the AMD and Intel CPUs get the same FPS roughly at high res.. so dont bother AMD is better for gaming because its cheaper

and Bf2 at that res you will probably get 150-170 FPS with that card... ATI FTW... i play on 1280x1024 full everything and im between 100 and 160fps and i have a X1950 pro
 
Tsuwamono, you are right that on the low end amd is now at price/performance parity (or even ahead) with intel, but that assumes you aren't overclocking, the core 2's overclock better then amd chip (or even any recent intel chip) at the moment so if you plan on overclocking and have decent cooling then you can get a big boost with intel. (Note I have had an athlon 600mhz, and athlon xp 1400+, p4 2.2, an a64 3000 + (754), 3200+ (939) and 4400x2 (939), before going with my current e6600, most of those are still in use for something though the p4 did die and the original athlon has been retired).
 
my point is that as far as gaming goes.. you can have a X6800 and an AMD X2 4400 and it wont matter if the motherboard and the processor are the only difference because games are GPU limited anyway so for gaming. no need for Intel as its much cheaper to build an AMD rig

You SURE you will keep playing at 1024x768?
Looking good then, although that video card might be overkill for that res...

EDIT: Oblivion is one of the hardest games for computers to handle, but with this system, at 1024x768, it should play smoothly.

What kind of screen you have? LCD screens so cheap now you might afford a 19" or 22" WS monitor...
 
you can get a e4300 and maybe a ds3, oc that and be better off. Because if you are playing @ 1024x768 crossfire really doesn't matter. Id say go with that cpu/mobo combo and get a 8800 320mb vid card. And Gskill ddr2800 ram is only a little over $100 for a 2x1gb kit.

Come to think of it, im going to buy a 19 inch LCD, also ive decided im going to get a AMD Athlon 5600+ as i can get it for $250 CND. And i heard if i have it i should be able to run Oblivion on 1280 x 1024 at avgerage of 50 fps. On high settings. With the Ati X1950XT & 2GB Dual Channel RAM DDR2.

EDIT: Im currently using a Viewsonic 17 inch CRT Plug & Play monitor.

Wow, i had no idea i would get that kind of performance.. isn't there a "ultra" high setting if you go in and edit the config file?

CPU: Intel Celeron 1.7 GHz P4
GPU: Nvidia Geforce FX 5500
RAM: 1.28 GB SDRAM

Yeah.. its been a while, ill be glad to get a new computer.
