Building a desktop for next gen MMOs...

I am building a desktop in the next few months for next gen MMOs. I want to be able to run games likes Rift, Guild Wars 2, Tera etc on the highest settings.

I want a system that I can upgrade as it gets older. I dont have to have 12GB+ Ram right now but would like a system and motherboard that would give me that option down the line. I want to make sure I get one of the best video cards available. I dont need a ton of Hard Drive space since I dont store a lot of songs, movies, etc. 500gb + is fine. No monitor or acessories just the Tower.

Can anyone help me with a build?

Thanks for the help!

Welcome to the forums.

I'm not at an expert but I believe our resident enthusiasts will recommend waiting until Sandy Bridge, Intel's next gen processors, come out in the next couple months. Your motherboard will have to be determined at that time as no current mobos will work with the new processors.

Also, this was posted last month on some upcoming mobos.

I'm not an expert either, but hardware changes often so you should wait until a few days before you're ready to buy to start planning the system.

Just as an example, the video card you'd buy today might not be the one you'd want next week after the Radeon 69xx cards are released. And in 2-3 months the prices will probably have changed even more.

Welcomd to AnandTech Forums, CUfreeze.

This will be the best advice you will get for a few months. 😉

Besides newer hardware coming out and older hardware being discontinued there are pricing changes, availability changes, newer information after early adopters experience elation or fail...

"Building a desktop for next gen MMOs..." should use next gen hardware.

So when those "next gen MMOs" are all available, with known hardware requirements, & you are ready to buy & build: that is the time. Until then, save what you can for the future.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think I will wait until at least the new sandy bridge intel chip comes out and the new AMD video cards.

I agree with all of the previous posters!

Wait until we have some solid requirements for those games. If you build ~1 week before release date, that will give you plenty of time to iron out the bugs.
