Ditch the 75GXP drive. Those are the models with a huge failure rate. Why the Plextor? You can get a 24X Lite-On for the same price.

Why the Plextor & IBM? Because he already has them & wants to re-use them :)(notice they aren't stared? ;))

Yep.

IBM's HDs are overpriced;
you can indeed get the 24 LiteOn for the same price;
and there are cheaper/better motherboards out there.
Additionally, why buy an outdated CPU?

bozo1 - no problem.

Anyways, why do you feel the 1ghz duron is outdated? It is more than potent for most applications out there (as most office applications will never use the 1ghz, and games are limited by the video card).

What cheeper/better motherboards are out there?

cooler than a duron? The duron uses the same core, but less L2 cache & lower clock speed, it should run much cooler.

yeah, I just realized that I forgot that as well as a network card. Either way they are both <$20 so I don't really count them ;)

I may have missed something, but do you have a case and power supply? I was unclear if you are "renovating" an old system or building a new system.

I'm building a new system for a friend. Right now he has a HP POS sytem that he added a 75GXP & a CD-RW to. He wants (me) to build (him) a new sytem, keeping the HP in it's oringinal condition so he can sell it 'in it's original state'. That is why the only items I have right now are the CD-RW & the HDD.

Yes the case includes a 300w PSU.
