Alright, I'm building one for my first time, and I'm stuck on step 1.:|

The cpu fits as easily as could be into the socket (A) but then when the cpu is in, the latch won't come down. It comes down just fine when no cpu is in, but when it's in, it won't come down, and the socket won't move back. Please let this be a fixable problem because it seems silly to RMA a board because of THAT. Oh yeah, and when I move the latch, cpu or no, it creaks like a door.

Don't worry about it creaking... the socket does this on my current mobo and it works fine...

IIRC when you push the lever down, you have to push it outward a little bit as well... not too much though.

Ugh....no go. It goes down a little bit, but just won't budge when it gets to about a 65-70 degree angle. Please, can anyone else help?

Does the cpu literally fall in? Checked to see if any of the pins are bent? Like Timco said, you need to move the lever out slightly at one point.

Nevermind!!! I just had to push a little harder! I thought it would snap off if I did, but it only needed a little more pressure. Thanks, tho :)

You hit the nail on the head lumpy. I heard that a Taisol CGK7492whatever wouldn't fit on a MSI K7TPro2 AFTER I bought them :( Well, it happens that is true. how do I get the oversized HSF to fit, or how do I downsize it?
