More than 10 years ago it was simple, now there are so many types processors, memory, hard drives, cables, and so on. How to do not get lost? Is there an online guide explaining basic steps?

Antec Smart power 2.0 500 watt power supply 24 pin
74gb Western Digital Hard Drive sata
250 GB Seagate sata hard drive
dvd burner
floppy just for principle
and top it off with a dell 2005fpw.
