Ok im thinking of buying a new computer and this is what i thought i could put in it:

Athlon Tbird at 1.2gigs
256 sdram (not sure on ddr issue etc)
Ibm deskstar 45gpx 15gig (not sure)
Geforce2 mx (not sure)
sb live! x-Gamer (not sure)
and a microstar k7t Pro2 kt133 (not sure either)

Ok im not sure about anything cept for the cpu so does anyone have suggestions for me? Try to include the price of the part pls and if you dont know forget about it. Im just a newbie to the indeatph analysis of computer parts...

ok, one, don't get generic ram. Get mushkin or crucial, those two will do you fine.
Two, don't get the x-gamer, it cost twice as much as the value and is literally THE SAME CARD. The only difference is that it comes with a few old games. Not worth it...
Three, get the fastest hardrive you can. That's one of the biggest bottle necks. cut back 100 mhz in your cpu if you have to save cash to get the best hardrive you can, the IBM drives are nice and i like my seagate ATA 66 too.
Four, if you are getting this wicked system put in a radeon or Geforce 2 GTS. It may be 100 bucks more but it will make all the difference! I just built mine so i know a bit about it. I'm built off an Asus A7 but i hear the Abits are good too so if you get either i think you'll be happy.

save $ by geting a 1gig(the price diference to 1.2 gig is not worth it) and get a faster video card. I would sugest a radeon all in wonder or 64 meg ddr. Geforce2 is also a good choice. Dont get a GeForce 2 ultra it's not worth the huge price difference for the small performance increase.

Dont reply too much guys im gonna crack!!!!

lol i thought it was easy getting ppl to reply to these kind of posts thanks to the first reply poster!

Cant you see im desperate!
LOL!

well you can get the x-gamer if you realy want the games it's bundled with. I think it come with UT now but im not positive. Could be a good buy if you want the games but if not get the value oem.

Well you might not need to get the x-gamer. It depends on what speakers you are planning on getting. If you are just getting little satellite speakers, any old Sound Card will work. Not that the x-gamer is that expensive, but you can save a little.

If he's doing this the first time he may not want to mess with raid. Might be better to get the two hard drives and have the option to add a raid card later. Hard drives are pretty cheap.

My ideas:

Athlon Tbird at 1 gig
256 sdram - Crucial
Maxtor Diamond Max Plus 45 ~ 30Gb
Geforce 2 GTS - Creative or Hercules
sb live! x-Gamer
Abit KT7

i would say a Tbird1G/1.1G + 32MB GTS/Raedon DDR will give you very good performance overall

get the 30G, honestly u think you dont need 15G, suddenly u might start collecting mp3 or watever, 15G is nothing
anywya 30G isnt much more than 15G pricewise

Can I suggest the GeForce 2 GTS 32MB DDR? You can pick one up really cheap on eB@y. I got mine for 130 shipped(in transit right now). The price of a good Geforce 2 mx.

I like your choice on mobo though, the cheapest of the "overclockers" and certainly has the best stability around. However, if you're looking for a RAID setup, go with ABIT.

With a 1.2 Ghz processor, you probably won't be doing much overclocking(i assume) and I don't think there is any need to get expensive mushkin ram or the such. Just get some generic PC133@cas2 and you should be fine. If you feel like going "name brand" then go for Micron which is a bit cheaper.

i'm gonna second the 30+ gig, i had a 3.2 then an 8.4 and never filled up either, then i got a computer with a 20 gig and then started getting movies and stuff and boom! now i'm up to 60 gig.
