Building a budget rig : ASRock Z77 Extreme4

I'm planning on a budgeted rig that consist of the following

Mobo : ASRock Z77 Extreme4
CPU : i5 3570K
GPU : Leadtek WINFAST GTX560 1gb GDDR5 256bit
PSU : Gigabyte PoweRock 500W
HDD : WD Blue Caviar 500gb
SSD : Crucial m4 64gb
RAM : Kingston Value Ram 8gb (4gbx2)
Case : Aerocool Strike-X One Advanced

Are these okay? considering that i wont OC, or at most a minimal OC in the future (not really familiar with OC, never OCed before). I'm on a really tight budget here, if any recommendations please be it in the price range of the component being replaced.
 
There is no point getting an unlocked processor if you are not going to overclock...

SSD is a luxury. If your on a tight budget that shouldn't even be on there.

What is this PC going to be used for? Are you a serious gamer? If so do you want to play games on high graphics @ 1080p?

You can drop the CPU down to an i3 2120 or a Phenom 965. Both are great CPUs for the price. Change the mobo a long with it.

That GPU sucks but I guess you haven't said what you want to do.
 
I'm not sure if I'll oc in the future tho, guess it was safe to get a cpu and mobo that can overclock relatively well? or so they say, and if I'd do so, prolly get an aftermarket cooler later on. Or what would you suggest i should change the cpu to? I'm not a hardcore gamer, probably just Dota II, HoN, starcraft II, L4D2? Not so sure about future games, but I wanna be on the safe side in case I'd like to play them. I wan't to be able to boot my comp quick with the ssd. Also, what GPU would you recommend? I can fork out a bit more cash if its a better bang for buck.

Oh, wasn't aware of that culture here, i'm new sorry.

1. It'll be used for not so heavy gaming i guess? if games like Dota II, HoN, starcraft II, L4D2 are considered that. But I may want to play games in the future that interest me, wont be able to tell. And minor stuff like movies, songs, surfing.

2. Well, I'm from Malaysia, so you guys may not know the prices here. But my budget is around RM2300 - RM2500 if that helps.

3. Plan to buy the parts from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

4. Don't know much about computers to be a fan of any.

5. It will be an entirely new rig, so no current parts will be used.

7. For the time being, I don't think it is necessary for me to oc. However, maybe in the future, to meet the requirements of newer games?

8. I'd like to meet the resolutions of 1980x1080? If that is possible.

9. I plan to build it within this week or the next.

10. Softwares are not important, Probably just Windows 7 64-bit?

No issues, it is a common oversight for even some of the longtime posters around here. But, it does make things much easier.

Looks like your budget is about $750-820 US (3.05RM to the USD), so considering that you need Windows and a monitor + peripherals, then we really need some idea of who you are buying from to see the prices and options. Any sites in Malaysia that are common for computer shopping? I found this one, and prices do not look to be too bad.

That leaves you with about RM 750 to play with, which is really, really tight for the rest. There are places to cut costs (cheaper processor, less RAM for instance) to get the rest fit in there.

An Elite 431 is fine. I would swap the PSU for something else like the SILVERSTONE STRIDER ST50F-ES 500W PSU for 210.00. That does stretch an already tight budget, but the GX series is pretty bad.
 
mfenn, thanks for the backup on the PSU. That is definitely an item not to monkey around with.

OP, dropping the RAM to 4GB might be necessary to shave a bit of coin:

I did not see much in the way of leeway going another route for CPU / Mobo on that site.
 
@riversend @mfenn thanks for the replies guys. But is it possible if i don't drop the specs? Coz i am able to buy the parts aforementioned with the budget, give and take. And I wan't a moderate cpu that may allow me to play future games to be safe. I'm just worried about components like PSU GPU, are they sufficient? and some said the GPU sucks which worries me alot. Like I said earlier, I wouldn't mind forking out abit for a better bang for buck on the GPU. The budget only covers the PC. Monitor and other accessories aren't an issue.
 
Ahhhh.... ok, well that makes things much easier.

So, to be clear, the RM 2400 +/- 100 is for the CPU/RAM/Mobo and Case, PSU, HDD/SSD, and GPU.

You have a separate budget for monitor/keyboard/mouse (monitor is or is expected to be 1080p?)

Do you need to include Windows in the budgeted amount, or is that a separate item along with the monitor/keyboard/mouse?

I'll try to get to the website you linked later on, but it probably won't be for another 10-12 hours or so.
 
Ah yes the budget is only for the PC, the rest i have a separate budget.

I will be getting the Dell U2312HM for the monitor.

Nope, softwares are covered in a separate budget too.

By the way I don't think I need a high end GPU at the moment as my games won't demand much graphics I guess? (Dota II, Starcraft II, HoN, L4D2 for now) Probably will upgrade the GPU in the future. Just hope the mobo and proc do not need to be replaced as much. Probably a GPU around the price range of the aforementioned GPU if you suggest to change (gtx560 non ti which costs roughly around RM600)

SSD is not a luxury. It's essential. It's the biggest upgrade possible for computers that are not 100% about running PC games. I'll take a cheaper CPU + SSD vs. 3570K + HDD every time.

Can't say I really care how fast my computer boots up. I could go make a sandwich or get a drink while it takes the extra 20 seconds.

Slight improvement on opening programs and maybe 15% better loading times on games...

If you have money, buy one. It is a luxury.

There are also so many garbage SSD's out there with firmware bugs and others that just die. Looking at you OCZ. :thumbsdown:
 
Wow, never thought so highly of SSDs. Never really experienced SSD's performance firsthand, was just amused by the boot speed. Thanks, good to know. I'll be keeping the SSD on the list.

However, can you comment on the GPU? Or could you recommend a better GPU for roughly in the same price range.
I've been reading many reviews, and I think I've narrowed it down to radeon7770 radeon6870 or gtx560ti. Or is there a better card in that range. Also, which brand is a good buy relative to price? (eg. MSI, Sapphire, Asus, etc. idk how it is properly termed)
 
Based on the site you linked, I take it you are bidding on components for this build, is that right? I'm not going to run through the bidding columns and give recommendations, you are on your own on that front.

However, now that I know the true budget you are working with, here is my recommendation based on PC Depot:

Total is RM 2289. The 7850 is a nice card for your needs, you could bump up to a 7870 for about an additional RM 150.

The only thing missing here is an SSD, and that is really not a requirement. Nice to have for sure, but I think this should do the trick.
 
Oh, the site is complicated. Basically it started out as a bidding site, and now established shops are taking advantage of the site to market their products. Able to maintain their prices by either setting the starting bid at the expected amount, or setting it at fixed price.

I am able to fetch everything in the list for, at most, RM2000. This leaves me with around RM500, so i'm thinking of SAPPHIRE HD6850 1GB 256Bit or forking out abit more for Sapphire HD7850 DUAL-X 1GB 256bit
OR, if possible, please do recommend. And I'm probably buying them tomorrow, so if this reaches you guys in time... If not tomorrow, it'll be during the coming week.

By the way, reason i chose those cards is because the 6850 is within my budget and the 7850 is not far off from 6870, in terms of price, which most people recommend... So if i choose to fork out abit more cash, I figured i might as well go for the 7850 instead of the 6870.

The build that riversend listed out already has a 7850. I must not be getting what you mean when you say, "I am able to fetch everything in the list for, at most, RM2000."
 
Also, it is a 2GB 7850 vice the 1GB you have listed. For gaming you want a CPU that is good enough (a 3470 more than qualifies in that department, and is likely to do so for quite some time), and then the best GPU you can get in your budget. It is all about tradeoffs, and I happen to think you would be better off throwing a couple extra RM at the GPU.
