Ok, I have decided to build my first system..
This is what I have pieced together
Motherboard ABIT NF7-S $118.00
Chip Barton 2500/2800 $92.00
Memory Corsair / Kingston Hyper X $94.00
HD* wd120JB $103.00
Case Matrix $69.00
CD Drive Lite-On $42.99
Video* ti4200 DDR $152.00
Sound 5.1 on Mobo $0.00
Speakers Antec or Itrigue $90.00
Power Supply ATX 400w $36.00
Keyboard none yet
Mouse none picked yet
Modem Network Card $5.00
Cooling Volcano 11 $29.99
Floppy Samsumg Black $7.00



Total is Roughly $838 and after tax about $908

I want to start looking for these parts, but if anyone can help critique this system, or maybe knows a better price/ better part , could tell me what to do.
Any input would be appreciated.

Keep check hotdeals for Dell speacials, you'll save a ton of money. Also Dell has good deal on the combo DVD/CDRW for under 60.00. I'm not sure if its black though.




 
Thanks Ill keep that in mind... Also That case is not set in stone, I just want something black or black and blue, with a window so I can put neons in it...

umm i hope you mean altec lansing. well in any case you're thinking about the 2100... they are not worth the money... my $30 ATP3 sounds better than those. i suggest the logitech Z640 for a cheap 5.1 colution

and for the power supply get the ALLIED 400W or 350W. those are great. don't go generic/no name brand on a power supply

oh yes the video card is rather pricy for its age. look for a ATI9500 Pro or a cheaper GF4 Ti4200 with 8X AGP...
 
The Logitech Z-640s for about $70-80 are a bargain. I love mine. If you don't need 5.1 sound, try the 2.1 Creative Inspires (don't know model number offhand) which sound great for the price as well. Try an SK-7\80mm fan combo instead of the Volcano, and get a good 350W PSU from Antec, Sparkle, Allied, or someone else recommended by the PSU nuts in the forums.
 
Hey I already built the comp, but it was my first so i have a few stupid questions...

Well, for now I can't get it to recognize my Etnernet port.
I went with the NF7 - S
Is there something stupid I didn't do?

Also there was some error with the onboard sound and something like that not recognized by windows.. the SP1 should fix this right?
