Was going to wait for haswell but... you know how it goes

- Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe
- Core i7 I7-3770 8 MB (does a megahelm fit these? Needs passive)
- 32GB Crucial 1600 MHz (good to go here ?)
- 2x512gb M4's (no raid)

Good to go right? Wondering about the ram though .. i cant seem to find the latency timings in my usual shops .. something i missed in the last 4 years ?

fair enough

1. used for programming, gaming, hosting and virtual envoriments (hence the amount of ram)

2. price is up for debate, i like a good deal and ready to pay for it, like the M4's .. they're dirt cheap atm.

3. I will be ordering my stuff from online vendors in denmark.

4. No fanboism here, only logic.

5. I intent on reusing all the other parts in my sig .. and/or but substitutes for the old machine to keep it running.

7. Most def. gonna overclock.

8. screen res at 1920x1200 + 1680x1050 + gonna add a third monitor soon.

9. gonna do this within a few months.

A few months away is too far to pick out specific parts. You'll be best off bumping this thread at that point, and linking to the sites where you plan to purchase parts will also be helpful.

Let's say a few means three months, that's October, or just about November. At that point, with Haswell only a few months away, maybe it would make sense just to wait. I mean it's not like an overclocked Q9450 is a slouch. Are you finding that your current machine is just unbearably slow for the tasks you're trying to do?

too far off, i suppose that feels right .. It is just that I have a pretty good feeling that haswell will be somewhat delayed, so IB os SB could/should/would still be a good bet for the next 3 years.

mfenn : motherboard picked off anands charts, was one of the best performers. 1TB of SSD's because I am ready to run everything off SSD's now .. anything short of movies and other candidates for streaming over a NAS. 1TB of M4's would hold the OS, Coding utils (Java, netbeans intellij eclipse, visual studio++ and various codebases), VirtualBox with several VM's of ~80GBs a pop, Steam and Origin. 1TB might even be short.. May have to move lesser VM's to a spindle ..

edit : should note that I dont pay "the price" of hardware ... maybe about 1/3 of the price ..

Probably should have mentioned that up front. ;) If you've read Anandtech for any length of time, you will have heard the saying. "there's no such thing as bad products, only bad prices." If you paid the actual price of hardware, you'd think long and hard for paying for a motherboard that performs within the margin of error as a motherboard that costs half as much.
